A two-day training pilot course “Bologna Tools and Micro-Credentials Recognition in Maritime Education and Training” was held at the University of Split, Faculty of Maritime Studies, on 16–17 February 2026. The pilot course gathered teachers and experts in maritime education to explore how Bologna tools can be applied to short learning programmes and micro-credentials in the maritime industry.
Over the course of 8 teaching hours, participants were introduced to key aspects of short learning programmes, learning outcomes, student workload, ECTS allocation, quality assurance, and recognition within the Bologna framework, with a specific focus on maritime education and training. Through a combination of presentations, case studies, and group work, they analysed existing practice and discussed ways to enhance the transparency and comparability of maritime training offers.
More than 20 participants attended the training, representing the University of Zadar, Polytechnic University of Catalonia, MaritimeMT Malta, Gdynia Maritime University, and the University of Split. The training was delivered by Dr Frane Urem, Vice Dean and Erasmus Coordinator at the University of Applied Sciences Šibenik. In small groups, they worked with a structured template to design micro-credentials, from defining learning outcomes and workload to specifying assessment methods and quality assurance mechanisms. The pilot course concluded with a joint reflection session and training evaluation, which provided valuable feedback for further development of similar capacity-building activities within the project.
